Dental Treatment

Preventive and Hygiene Philosophy

Good oral health is correlated to having good overall health. Our hygienists are very educated and up to date on the latest techniques in dental hygiene. They work very hard with our patients to educate them on the best ways to care for their teeth and gums. We strongly recommend routine visits by our patients so they can maintain health and detect problems early. Early problems are often more easy to resolve.

Cosmetic Procedures

In our office, there are many ways to improve your smile. We use teeth whitening systems from Opalescence, which are stronger and more effective than over-the-counter products. Broken or misshapen teeth can be repaired with tooth-colored fillings or porcelain crowns and veneers. Careful consideration is taken to make sure that new restorations match your existing teeth.

Why Dental Implants?

Dental Implants are tooth-root replacements made from a safe biocompatible material (titanium). A crown is placed on top of the implant and functions like a normal tooth. Dental Implants have the highest success rate for tooth replacement options. One advantage of implants is that they maintain bone where the tooth was lost. Other options such as fixed bridges and removable partial dentures lead to increased bone loss. Another advantage of dental implants is adjacent teeth do not need to be altered or have added stress on them. These added stressors lead to an increased risk of fractures, need for root canals, and decay.

Technology

The evolution of technology has led to safer and more efficient treatment of patients in the field of dentistry. In our practice, we use digital X-rays and intraoral photography to better diagnose and educate patients. We also use Simplant treatment planning software, which is used to evaluate cone beam sans (3D imagining) for dental implants. Simplant allows us to better evaluate a patient’s anatomy and virtually place dental implants prior to surgery.

Dental Technology in the Office

  • Digital x-rays
  • Intraoral photography
  • Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT): A type of dental X-ray that allows the dentist to evaluate teeth and surrounding anatomy in 3D.
  • Digital Impressions: The use of 3D scanning technology allows the dentist to take scans of the teeth and gums, which replaces traditional dental impressions. This method is quicker, more accurate, less invasive, and allows for an easier workflow when fabricating crowns and appliances.
  • Guided Implant Surgery: Allows the dentist to combine the information from a patient’s digital impression and CBCT scan to create a 3D model of the patient. From this model the dentist is then able to optimally plan the procedure before it is done, allowing for a safer and less invasive implant placement procedure.
  • Laser Periodontal therapy
  • Rotary Endodontics

FAQ

Q: How is teeth whitening done?
A: The process for whitening teeth begins with impressions of your teeth. From these impressions, our office staff creates custom bleaching trays. These custom trays are worn by patients at home and allow for a more even and effective whitening of teeth. The bleaching material used has a stronger concentration than that used in over-the-counter products, which leads to faster results.

Q: How often should I get my teeth cleaned?
A: Patients with healthy gums should get their teeth checked and cleaned every six months. If you have signs of gum disease (periodontal disease), we recommend appointments every three months to ensure optimal care and improvement. Regular appointments allow us to keep an eye on any existing problems and detect new issues early for less invasive treatment.

Q: What are my options for replacing missing teeth?

A: Missing teeth can be replaced with dental implants, bridges, and dentures. We work with our patients to educate them about each option so they can make a choice that best fits their needs.
Q: Why do I need a crown?
A: Crowns are restorations that covers the tooth and provides strength. They are used to support large fillings, to restore fractured teeth, to protect root canaled teeth, to cover dental implants, and to improve aesthetics
Q: Do I have an alternative to CPAP?
A: Dental appliance therapy can be used as an alternative to treat mild to moderate sleep apnea and snoring.
